Summary: A chloroplast PPR protein required for ndhA and ndhB splicing. Null alleles of crs4 condition pale yellow green, non-photosynthetic and seedling lethal due to reduced accumulation of photosynthetic enzyme complexes.
Images: left: mutant leaf color depicted on a seedling leaf color scale; right: Northern blot from ndhB; lower cartoon shows sites of Mu insertions.
First reported: Unpublished.
Key Alleles
crs4-1::Mu; Mu insertion is in the first exon. Pale yellow green, seedling lethal phenotype.
crs4-2::Mu; Mu insertion in the second exon. Pale yellow green, seedling lethal phenotype.
crs4-1/crs4-2 individuals are also pale yellow green, seedling lethal phenotype.
Map Location
Currently ambiguous. A cDNA sequence aligns to distinct regions on chromosomes 2 and 9.
Gene Product
A pentatricopeptide repeat protein required for ndhA and ndhB splicing.
